A New Way to Help Reduce the Risk of Deer Accidents
- MAXSA Innovations Deer Alert Tells Them You're Coming!
Did you know that our nation has a deer population so huge that 150-pound deer routinely roam the roads in some areas? According to AAA, there are over 500,000 reported deer-car collisions yearly, resulting in an average damage of $ 2,200 per car. Every year, thousands of people get injured this way and more than 100 are killed. And it’s getting worse. In some of the more deer-dense states, such as Minnesota, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, and New York, fear of deer is becoming part of vehicle drivers’ lives. So, what can be done to enhance road safety and save lives of both car passengers and deer?
So-called deer whistles have been available for several years, which are quite affordable and just have to be stuck on the vehicle’s bumper. Unfortunately, these wind-activated devices only work at fast speed and clog with dirt and grime too easily, which makes them inoperable.
Keeping the drawbacks of the whistles in mind, engineers at MAXSA Innovations designed a new electronic animal-warning system called Deer Alert™. A small speaker simply sits behind the grill of a vehicle and two wires connect to the battery terminals. Deer Alert emits a sonic and an ultrasonic sound to alert a wide range of animals, including deer, cattle, moose, and even pets. Unlike wind activated devices, Deer Alert works at any speed and warns animals of an approaching vehicle from up to 1,500 feet away!
